Losing weight and drinking alcohol, mopping up. Tip of the week 9

losing weight and drinking alcohol

Losing weight and drinking alcohol. Can you keep drinking alcohol if you want to lose weight? Yes, of course you can. Only, little will come of losing weight that way. Drinking alcohol when you want to lose weight is like going into the sauna when you want to cool down. Totally illogical.

Not only do alcoholic drinks contain a lot of calories, they also act as an appetite stimulant, making you more inclined to cosy up for a snack or a greasy bite.

In addition, alcohol reduces the sense of satiety, causing you to eat and drink even more in an evening.

Drinking alcohol if you want to lose weight? Why should you...

An eternal shame, especially if you chug a good number of glasses of alcohol every weekend! Not only does alcohol make you hungry, it also turns food into fat faster and inhibits fat burning and digestion. All things you just don't want.

How is that possible?

Alcohol is broken down by the liver. However, the liver also plays an important role in fat burning. The liver converts waste products into usable substances and energy for our body!

When the liver has to work very hard to break down alcohol, it will have less time for its other tasks concerning fat burning.

Because your liver is extremely busy breaking down alcohol at that time, fat processing is put on the back burner, because that is not the first priority right now. First, the alcohol (detected as poison by your body) has to get out of your body!

As a result, the fat in your body is not processed but stored directly. Alcohol is thus a real culprit if you want to lose weight.

Before you allow yourself another beer or wine or think you 'need' alcohol for something, think first:

  • how this will thwart your entire weight-loss process
  • how good you will feel tomorrow if you do NOT drink right now
  • whether (drinking a lot of) alcohol might have become a habit
  • or a addiction...
  • Whether there is a psychological cause is for your drinking
  • Whether it might be latent herd behaviour is...

Fat face caused by alcohol

Another annoying side effect of alcohol is that it gives you a bloated face. When you've gone big with the alcoholic refreshments, chances are you'll wake up the next day with a fat face.

The more and the more often you drink, the longer this phenomenon persists. This is caused by alcohol massively dehydrating your body inside. In addition, alcohol breaks down vitamins, giving you a dull and dull complexion that looks unhealthy.

The lack of moisture and key vitamins cause the skin to swell and temporarily unable to produce new cells, resulting in a puffy face.

Besides, the huge number of calories you hoover up on a night out doesn't help either.

So slimming down and drinking alcohol is far from a good combination. It is either one or the other. Wanting both is mopping the water up. Find more interesting eye-openers about losing weight and alcohol >HERE.

If you would still like to join in for an evening of 'socialising', please choose rather:

  • mix drinks with light soft drinks
  • light beer
  • beer mixed with light seven-up
  • one or two large glasses of water or spa red after each alcoholic drink

Make sure you do extra exercise the day after and drink extra water. But bEater, of course, is: leave it!
