Hollywood tarot reader 2, Rod King
In my blog 'Hollywood tarot reader' I introduced you to Angie Banicki, a well-known tarot reader in America. I found her name by chance after searching the internet for stories about celebrities who value tarot.
I thought it would be fun to write a blog about Hollywood stars who lay the tarot themselves or draw the occasional oracle card at home. Unfortunately, I was unable to find them. Instead, I stumbled upon the story of Angie Banicki.
After reading her story and visiting her website, I found her interesting enough to follow on Instagram which I did so. And sure enough, a few days later she went live to give her followers short free readings.
As a tarotist, I enjoyed watching her at work. I watched how she interpreted the cards and compared her methods with mine. I had no intention of asking a question myself; I was watching the session from a professional interest.
Yet as time passed, it began to itch more. I had been walking around with a question for a while and had already played a card myself, but now that I saw her busy like this, I was somehow curious about what she would say about it.
My own reading at the time was very positive, but when you lay the card for yourself, there always remains a small chance that your own 'wishfull thinking' will also come into play while interpreting the cards....
Before I knew it, I had typed my question.
'Hi Angie, I'm a writer and tarot reader/astrologer from Holland. Is it okay for me to do more TV work?'
Critical
Those who have known me longer than today know that I am ridiculously critical. Especially of myself. Regularly, I have turned down TV invitations because I was just too nervous in front of the camera.
Especially when it was a live recording with an audience that could not be cut or pasted afterwards; hell.
Although by now (thanks to the fantastic crews at my regular clients &C and WOMAN) did gain more experience in this area, it remains a thing for me. Even if it is not a live recording.
What do they leave in, what do they cut out, what tune do they put underneath and how will it all come across on screen later?
I'm okay with the shooting itself, often only a small group of people are involved in this and it's super fun. But knowing that so many people are going to see the footage afterwards, that!
Besides, I am of the opinion that if you continuously give interviews on the same topic or appear too often at all with your stamp in the media, people will soon get fed up with you. If I already look and listen to myself critically, let alone the ever-alert viewer!
On the other hand, if you always say 'no', you will miss out on professional opportunities, income and perhaps very nice new experiences. For you, ten others who are eager.
Rod King
Hence my decision to present this dilemma to Angie. I was there now anyway...
'Oh I like this one!" exclaimed Angie enthusiastically upon reading my question. She repeated aloud the words I had just typed and blindly drew a card from her deck which she intuitively pointed out to me.
She showed me the image. 'As a tarot reader you know this card!' she said. 'It's the King of Wands'. And indeed. Given my daily work, the King of Wands is a familiar face to me. Usually, the King of Wands concerns an ambitious, verbally strong man who knows what he wants but is also good at enthusing others.
'This man has blonde hair. He already has a plan for you and will get in touch with you very soon!" she almost crowed into the camera. While doing so, she advised me to take him up on his offer this time, that it would be good for me as well as for my career.
Okay...
Believe it or not, a few weeks after this virtual reading, I received an e-mail from a - indeed dark blonde - producer who wanted to work with me. We met at the restaurant of a hotel in Amsterdam to have a drink together and discuss a few things.
Long story short: I accepted his offer as Angie advised me and we have since come to an agreement regarding writing texts for his programme.
Although he wanted to (occasionally) put me in the picture himself, I have thanked him for this for a while. I am not ruling anything out, what is not can still come but for now I like working behind the scenes me better than before anyway.
The fact remains that both the tarot and Angie were right.
